If planning to stay in the West Waterford area and want to sample the pleasures of rural Ireland at it's best then without doubt the place to stay is Sliabh gCua Farmhouse on the outskirts of the little village Touraneena in Ballinamult. Sliabh gCua is just 16km outside Dungarvan and the welcome that Breeda and Jim Cullinan will extend to you is something to be experienced to be believed.
Even late evening/night guests will find themselves immediately embraced into the family as the Cullinans invite you into their cosy country kitchen to share with them a mugs of hot chocolate, tea or coffee and the inevitable home made pies or scones from the oven.
Sliabh gCua is a wonderful country farmhouse with character set in peaceful surroundings on a dairy farm nestled between the Comeragh and Knockmealdown mountains. Located 16 kms off the N25 and signposted on the main Clonmel - Dungarvan road (R672) road, it is central for touring, walking, fishing, horse riding and golf. The house is surrounded by beautiful rolling farmland with lovely grounds and a special play area for children.
Accommodation is of the highest standard and the beautiful home of Breeda and Jim Cullinan is full of character and taste. Breeda herself is an excellent cook and says she brushed up on her culinary efforts with some time spent at the Ballymaloe Cookery School run by the Allen family in nearby Shanagarry. The breakfasts alone are a feast of home made mueslis, fruit salads, home made breads jams and scones and the tasty "Full Irish".
The amazing thing about Sliabh gCua is that you leave having felt that you were part of a warm rural family for a few days and the taste of that wonderful food will definitely have you planning to return.
